It’s good to see the adults back in charge:

Tony Abbott has warned it is Malcolm Turnbull’s “duty” to keep the Liberal Party united as the former prime minister argues against the formation of a breakaway conservative party, floated by maverick senator Cory Bernardi.

…Since his removal Mr Abbott has been approached by hundreds of party members to support a new conservative political group.

Mr Abbott has written to Liberals telling them a split would “doom” the Liberals and leave the Coalition out of government for decades. He views the threat of a breakaway as a “very serious matter” and argues against any split.

Mr Abbott said party unity was a matter for the Liberal leader. “The first duty of the leader is to keep the party together,” he said.

…Industry Minister Greg Hunt offered a strong pitch to Senator Bernardi to remain a Liberal, saying the party was a “broad church” that embraced believers in freedom and open markets and was part of “a global centre-right movement which has been going for over two centuries”.

“It’s a powerful, important way of bringing people together to focus on, in the end, creating jobs and improving lives,” Mr Hunt said. “We were all elected on a commitment to our party, to the Australian people, that we would be there for the life of this parliament as members of those parties, and I’m very confident that all of the members will retain that commitment.”

Conservative Tasmanian senator Eric Abetz said politics was a “frustrating game”, but the party was stronger with conservative MPs in its ranks and it was important to “roll with the punches”.

“I think it is important that anybody with a conservative disposition to Australian politics is part and parcel of the Liberal Party. That is the natural home for conservatives in Australian politics,” he told Sky News.

Undermine then blame the undermined for his weakness. The ages old tactic of the political bxxtard.
