OUR STORY RE BAD BANK BOQ
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into helping families like mine. We happened to stumble across your website and face book page whilst trying to make sense of the mess we are in. Our story began when we decided to construct a new house on our existing home’s property. The loan was approved, by BOQ and construction began. Part way through the beginning of the construction process the bank did an evaluation as part of our monthly claim. The loan was then frozen due to a supposed LVR issue. This was conveniently only raised after our house was knocked down leaving us with an incomplete construction.
We were forced into a position of not being able to move forward with the build and the financial and emotional stress took its toll. We began a series of disputes over 3 years with the BOQ and FOS but they all led nowhere. The stress snowballed when late last year my husband was out of work for a short period of time. We fell behind on payments and the bank repossessed the property with no default notification, or court judgment (which I was told is legal due to there not being any occupants on the property).
We were never given any opportunity to remedy the arrears, which we could of done if given some time to make arrangements. The bank closed the doors on our hardship application and the property was sold in January this year. We have been left with a shortfall and are still yet to find out where our personal belongings are and if we are accruing storage fees on these.
The bank and FOS have shut down every case that we have opened and we are shattered. The banks do not have any remorse for the damage they are caused to families like mine. The financial and emotional stress has caused my husband and I to be depressed, our marriage is struggling and our two children have been subjected to parents that are so depleted of energy. We are barely coping particularly as one of our children is autistic and needs extra support on top of all of this.
We have recently sought counseling to try and somehow recover from this. Thankfully I have obtained a copy of our LAF and have found some discrepancies on the document. We will push forward with this despite the daily drain. We are so thankful for Denise, the Downer family and other members for bravely sharing their stories in the public arena and fighting for a Royal commission.
We hope that our own story will add further weight and support to this cause. Dear Denise and all BFCSA members
